PSU Wattage Calculator

Find out exactly how much power your PC needs. Accounts for transient power spikes from modern GPUs.

How to Choose the Right PSU

Your power supply unit (PSU) is the foundation of a stable PC. An undersized PSU can cause crashes, black screens, and even hardware damage. An oversized PSU just wastes money.

Transient Power Spikes: Modern GPUs like the RTX 4090, RTX 5090, and RTX 5080 can draw 1.5-2x their rated TDP in brief spikes lasting microseconds. Our calculator accounts for these spikes to prevent unexpected shutdowns.

12VHPWR / 16-pin Connector: NVIDIA RTX 40 and 50 series GPUs use the new 16-pin power connector. Make sure your PSU includes one natively, or use a high-quality adapter.

Efficiency Ratings: 80+ Gold is the sweet spot for most builds. 80+ Platinum and Titanium offer marginal efficiency gains at a significant price premium — worth it only for 24/7 workstations.

Headroom: We recommend running your PSU at 60-80% of its rated capacity. This is the most efficient operating range and provides room for component upgrades.
